Announced as part of the Windows 10 launch, Microsoft HoloLens is an augmented reality system which uses a headset with a see-through visor to impose holographic images onto the wearers’ vision.
In the same week that Google announced that Google Glass has “graduated” and will evolve into a different product, Microsoft boldly steps into the arena.
For me, the plus side of Microsoft’s system is that it does not include a camera which was the main concern with Google Glass in which “glassholes” were seen to be invading others’ privacy.
The HoloLens does looks unwieldy; but that’s because at you’re strapping a full computer to your head; including CPU, GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) and something called a HPU (Holographic Processing Unit)
I can see some exciting uses for Microsoft HoloLens including many commercial applications, but I can’t see me walking round my local supermarket wearing it as I’d probably be classed as an AssHolo.
